My adventures in writing…

Geez, I have no clue where the time has gone. The past three months have been a blur of working on my book, working on the musical, and working on the zine–work on top of running a household. It’s also been getting warmer–just so you all know, we’ve had a lot of 80+ degree days and even a couple of 100+ degree ones in March here in So Cal–and while I am not complaining about my state’s famous mild weather, can we please just save the three digit temperatures for July & August please?

Spring arrived eighteen days ago, and I am finally pulling myself out of my winter mindset and ready to face the season. While I’m more of an autumn girl, I do love that spring represents new beginnings, and one of the new beginnings I am preparing myself for is how successful Riot Grrrl the Anti-Musical is becoming. Our Instagram now has more than 700 followers and our website also has a bunch. In the last three months, even my Instagram account has gotten dozens of new followers, and so has my co-writer’s. We are so pleased that there is a lot of interest in this!

Our happy faces at how much interest our musical is receiving.

Actually, we are laughing about the letters VJJ coming up in our share code, like two 14-year-old boys. Like the program somehow knew we were two women writing a script about female empowerment. But I digress…

Since my last post, Nicolette and I were interviewed by Jen Weinstein, host of The Midlife Edit podcast, and talked about the project, as well as midlife and motherhood. It was my first time being interviewed on a podcast… my first time being interviewed for something other than a class project. My introverted self was a bit shy and nervous, but it ended up being a lot of fun. We are being interviewed again on Wednesday, this time about the Breaking The Grrrl zine, and I will definitely have an easier time now that I know what to expect. I linked the podcast, in case you want to take a listen. I also linked the zine if you have not yet seen it and want to take a look at it.

Script writing is coming along nicely. We finished writing Act One last Friday, and will be starting on Act Two this Friday. Since we are hoping to have the first draft written and ready for a 29-hour reading by summer, we are meeting up more regularly, even though we are both working on other projects.

And speaking of other projects, I really need to make some time to work on my book, so I will be spending all day tomorrow working on it. It hasn’t been getting the attention it deserves over the last couple of weeks, and I am missing it very much.

Until next time…
